Top 10 Best Security Cameras

We've Done the Shopping for You!

The most popular security cameras for both home and business are listed below. We have compared the performance and price from the largest online security providers and listed them side by side. We are pleased to see our quality and price out perform them all!

Vandal Mini Dome

Mini Vandal Domes are used indoors and outdoors. They have a small footprint making them popular for indoor use. Their extreme weather metal housing makes them great for outdoor surveillance. The wide-angle lens (90-110 degrees) provides facial identification at a maximum distance of 40-50 feet from the camera.

Word of Advice: There are some providers who promote wide-angle fixed lens cameras with 100-130 foot night vision. Such cameras should be avoided. The camera will only be effective up to 40-50 feet because of the lens. ANY camera with a fixed wide-angle lens and long range night vision will have this limitation. It is a poor design and misrepresents the cameras capabilities. Expert Advice; How to choose the right camera and lens.

Mini Bullet Camera

Mini Outdoor Bullet Cameras are great for general perimeter surveillance such as driveways, yards, entry points, walkways etc. The wide-angle lens (90 degrees) provides facial identification at a maximum distance of 40-50 feet from the camera.

Word of Advice: There are bullet cameras on the market that have plastic housings. Plastic housings can be the cause of many types of premature failures such as penetration of moisture and UV or sun damage. Plastic housings (even if its outdoor rated) should be avoided.

Vandal Dome with Zoom Lens

Vandal domes with a manual zoom lens are extremely popular. They allow the user to manually adjust the cameras viewing distance with an adjustment located on the camera. During installation, the camera is mounted and the zoom lens is adjusted (zoomed in or out) to get that perfect view. These cameras are used indoors and outdoors and are highly recommended for viewing distances larger than 50 feet. They are available in several resolutions, the most popular is 4 Megapixel. 4MP is the perfect balance between HD resolution and video storage requirements.

Word of Advice: If you are targeting distances over 50 feet from the camera, we highly recommend a camera with a manual or motorized zoom lens. For viewing distances larger than 50 feet it is very important to be able to adjust the cameras view to allow facial ID and license plate capture at the distances you desire. FYI: An adjustable lens is almost always required to capture license plates. Our educational section explains. How to Capture License Plates

4K Bullet Cameras

4K cameras are the highest resolution security cameras on the market. The clarity is excellent! Great when maximum resolution is needed. The extremely large video format provides the ability to digitally zoom into recorded video further than any other video format and keep excellent clarity

Word of Advice: 4K does have a few limitations. First the video format is so large, the frame rate on the cameras and recordings are limited to 15 frames per second. This produces a slightly choppy or robotic motion to the video. Also the huge file formats quickly eat up your video storage and can substantially reduce your "total days stored" compared to other video formats. 4K cameras and systems on an average are 50-90 percent more expensive than 4 megapixel systems. There are situations where a 4K camera is the right choice. But we recommend using 4 megapixel cameras when possible. They provide the best balance between cost, video clarity and video storage.

Motorized Zoom Vandal Domes

A motorized zoom lens allows the user to remotely control the cameras view with a computer, tablet or smart phone; optically zooming in and out for a crystal clear field of view. Great for license plate ID applications.

Word of Advice: We recommend a camera with either a manual or motorized zoom lens when working with viewing distances greater than 50 feet.

PTZ Security Cameras

Outdoor PTZ cameras allow you to view close-up images with crisp detail from long distances. Employing an advanced pan/tilt mechanism, it provides fast, precise movement; panning, tilting, zooming. You can easily control the lens position with a computer, tablet or smart phone. The camera can be programmed to perform automatic tours, panning and tilting to pre-programmed positions.

Word of Advice: PTZ cameras are the most flexible cameras on the market. But they are expensive and they can only see in one place at one time. Often it is better to install more fixed view cameras than a PTZ camera. The result can be better coverage for less money. PTZ cameras are great for parking lots, large open areas and large building applications.

Great for license plate ID applications.

Wireless Security Cameras

Wireless cameras are recommended for residential use. The cameras use either wifi or radio frequency to transmit the video to the recorder. The power for the camera is NOT wireless. Most wireless cameras need a constant power source to power the camera, night vision system and video transmission. Battery and solar is not a reliable solution.

Word of Advice: The Pro's Golden Rule for Wireless: Only consider wireless if running a single cable from the camera locations to the video recorder is not possible. The main benefit of wireless is convenience, not performance and reliability. But there are applications, usually residential, where running a cable to the camera location is just not practical and a wireless system is the right choice. The performance of our Wifi-Pro and RF-Plus wireless systems are the best on the market. Still, they do have limitations and as good as they are, they do not match the performance of a “wired” system.
