Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware. It was built on the site of the first Swedish settlement in North America, Fort Christina. The core metropolitan statistical area had a population of 6,228,601 in 2020, making it the seventh largest metropolitan region in the nation. The combined statistical area population is 7.366 million.
