    Atlanta is the capital and most populous city of Georgia. It is located in Fulton County, which is the most populous county in the state. A portion of the city also extends into DeKalb County. According to the 2020 U.S. census, the city has a population of 498,715, making it the eighth most populous city in the Southeast and the 38th most populous city in the entire United States. Atlanta is the central hub of the larger Atlanta metropolitan area, which is home to over 6.1 million people. This makes it the eighth-largest metropolitan area in the United States.     Augusta, also known as Augusta–Richmond County, is a consolidated city-county located in Georgia.
