8T Hard Drive
8 Terabyte Internal Hard Drive
This 8T (8,000 Gigabyte) internal hard drive is designed for use with high performance video surveillance recorders. Price includes installation into the NVR or DVR as well as formatting.
To support multiple cameras that are all recording HD resolutions, you need a lot of data storage. The video recorder stores the video footage on internal hard drives. The size of the drive and the recording options determine the total number of days the system can store. Setting all of the cameras to record only when motion is detected can double or possibly even triple the storage capacity. If you are not getting the total amount of days you would like, the hard drive can be upgraded or the recording settings can be adjusted.

Can I use any hard drive for surveillance?
The answer is simple, yes! Any SATA hard drive will work in most surveillance video recorders. The question that should be asked is; How long will a normal hard drive last recording multiple 4K video streams? The answer is, a year or less. The fact is normal PC SATA hard drives are not built for the heavy workloads of a video surveillance system and they will fail prematurely.
Surveillance Grade vs PC/Desktop Grade
A surveillance grade hard drive is simply a high performance hard drive designed specifically for recording video data. They come in both internal and external form factors, and offer better performance than standard desktop drives. Most commonly used for CCTV applications, they are capable of storing hours upon hours of HD video footage without skipping a beat.
Surveillance grade hard drives are typically built around 7200 RPM 2.5 inch platters, offering up to 12TB of storage space. This is far beyond the capacity of most desktop hard drives. While these drives cost more than a consumer grade hard drive, they are well worth the investment. If you plan on keeping large amounts of video footage, you'll want to invest in a surveillance grade hard drive.
What makes a hard drive a surveillance grade hard drive? There are three main components that make up a surveillance grade hard drive:
Platter Speed - The number of revolutions per second that the platters rotate. Higher numbers indicate faster rotation rates.
Head Gap - The distance between the heads and the platters. Lower numbers indicate closer spacing.
Data Transfer Rate - The amount of data transferred per second. Higher numbers indicate greater transfer rates.
The precision of the components in a surveillance hard drive is higher quality and more robust than hard drives used in a PC. Surveillance rated hard drives are simply built better, their components are business class and they are designed for the constant heavy workloads of video surveillance systems.
